The Mummering tradition found in Newfoundland has strong roots in the South East of Ireland and is related to a series of guising and mumming traditions that still exist to this day. Wexford like many parts of Ireland had a strong tradition of people embracing disguise and role-play at different dates in the calendar year.
We are excited to feature a very special presentation delivered by husband and wife duo, traditional singer Aileen Lambert and artist/folklorist Michael Fortune from folklore.ie who will Zoom in all the way from Wexford County. They will show us examples of the wider mumming tradition in Ireland, how the tradition has evolved and how it’s stayed the same. They both have a unique understanding of the shared customs as they have travelled to and recorded in Newfoundland since 2006.
This presentation of Irish Mumming is not to be missed!
This special program will be presented via Zoom, and will also have a limited capacity live audience.
To attend via Zoom, please register for the event. You will receive a free Zoom invitation link after registering.
