The Spirit of Mummering
The 2025 Mummers Festival is looking to create a revival of some of the traditions of Christmases past. "The Spirit of Mummering" will incorporate actors, folklorists, dancers, musicians, and community members into a collective project to produce the "Traditional Newfoundland Christmas Mummers Play" or the Mummers Play.
In addition to varying iterations of the Mummers Play, the evening will include Tonya Kearney-Russell who will teach members of the audience some traditional Newfoundland Dancing. Audience members will perform the Dancing as Tonya calls the dances.We will also feature traditional Newfoundland music by local musicians, it is still to be determined the musicians involved.
Join us as we explore a whole other side of Newfoundland Mummering!

Join us for an in depth discussion about the history of the Mummers Play, its history, and the impact that the Mummers Play has had in Newfoundland and beyond. This is sure to be an eye-opening discussion! Free event. Part of the Coffee & Culture Series at The Rooms.
